There are numerous attractions and recreational opportunities in and around Farmers Branch. Located within the city is the Historical Park, 22 acres that provide historical sites that trace the heritage of Farmers Branch from the 1840s through the 1940s. Also at this park are picnic areas, two large meadows, several tours and recreational classes.
There are numerous shopping and entertainment facilities located nearby including the Galleria Shopping Mall in Addison and the Historic West End Shopping and Entertainment Center in Downtown Dallas. Other area attractions include the ballpark in Arlington, the Texas Stadium, the Dallas Museum of Art, Symphony Center and an amusement park - Six Flags over Texas. Within a hundred mile radius of Farmers Branch, there are more than 50 lakes and 100 public and private golf courses for additional recreational activities. The city hosts several special events each year such as a free concert by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in the Historical Park, Independence Day Celebration, Halloween in the Park and Christmas festivities for the whole family. Farmers Branch is served by the Carrollton/Farmers Branch Independent School District. Community involvement, parental support, dedicated staff members all contribute to make each school an excellent learning environment. Due to the efforts from the community and staff, schools within this district have been able to provide the best education possible for each child. Schools within this district have won both national and regional awards -- eight schools received national recognition as National Blue Ribbon Schools of excellence and eight other campuses have been recognized by the Texas Education Agency as 2002 Exemplary Schools. For higher education, Brookhaven College and the University of Texas at Dallas are just a short drive away. |
